Flexibility 201/301: Backbending


Description: Join us for a class about safe backbending! We'll explore the differences between flexibility and mobility, and discuss ways to open, strengthen, and stabilize the shoulders, hips, and spine. Students will learn, in depth, the purpose behind the alignment cues regularly offered in traditional yoga and flexibility classes. We will discuss various methods and the tools they offer for training flexibility. We'll also touch on some performance-oriented backbending skills, such as forearm stands and contortion-handstands. Don't worry—you don’t need to have a handstand to take this class. However, these skills will be used as training tools, withemphasis placed on what they teach us about our bodies rather than making them performance-ready.
