Weekend Immersions

Weekend Immersion: Tramp Wall w/ Jon Snyder

Want to take your love of defying gravity up a notch? That's where tramp wall comes in. The walls have three possible heights and the trampoline has two sides, giving you plenty of space to work. Each person will learn at their own level. Whether you are just starting or advancing to more difficult skills, this is the perfect workshop for you! You'll have tons of time on the trampoline with lots of chances to test your daring and progress your skills. Open training time with a coach is included in the workshop as well.

Prerequisites:

This workshop is open to all levels but requires that you have some trampoline experience. Participants should be confident landing on their back and stomach. You should also be prepared to work on back flips (or already be doing them). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email Jon at [email protected]

About the instructor:

Jon Snyder is an acrobat who specializes in tramp wall and teeterboard. He has been professionally performing for the last seven years and has done shows all over the world. He is currently teaching tramp wall in Chicago at Aloft Circus Arts, but has also taught tramp wall at the San Diego Circus Center.

Weekend Immersion: German Wheel with Chris Delgado

Get head over heels in this wheel adventure with international coach Chris Delgado. You will do it all—straightline, spiral, and vault—with a special emphasis on how you can continue to train these tricks after you get home. After warming up with belt skills, you'll be presented with new tricks and unusual transitions. Fall in love with the wheel all over again with a coach who can meet you where you're at and challenge you to go places you didn't know you could.

Prerequisites:

All experience levels welcome but having at least one wheel class in your background is helpful. We have wheels for students up to 6'0" tall or feel free to bring your own wheel. Please wear lace-up shoes with flexible soles. Running shoes will work, but wrestling or martial arts shoes similar to Feiyue Martial Arts Shoes are ideal. You can find them at www.themartialartsstore.com or locally at Windham Movement Apparel.

About the instructor:

Chris Delgado graduated from Case Western Reserve University, studied at Dell'arte International School of Physical Theatre, went to work for CircEsteem, a nonprofit youth circus in Chicago, and that’s where he met the German wheel. He was immediately drawn to her curves and the swing in her step; he just could not resist! He trained in Chicago with Wolfgang Bientzle (8 time world champion) for 4 years, and never looked back. Inside a German wheel, he has taught and performed across the US and internationally, everywhere from Kent, Ohio to Abu Dhabi.

Weekend Immersion: Lyra

Turn up the heat on your lyra style with this weekend immersion! Learn to fill the space and navigate pathways in and around the aerial hoop—be it single or double point. We will twist, twirl, dive, and roll from top to bottom. We'll work in the center of the hoop, below the hoop, in the ropes above the bar, and also explore those always-forgotten outside edges. Students will be introduced to short sequences that combine both static shapes and dynamic movement. Through the breakdown of these sequences, students will learn individual skills and how to seamlessly connect them through subtle movement.

Prerequisites:

This workshop is geared towards the intermediate to advanced student with a current and regular aerial practice. You should be able to do multiple inversions cleanly through short- and long-arm hangs, maintain a single knee hang hands-free, find a back balance without assistance, and hold a front balance and a one-arm hang for 10 seconds.

About the Instructor:

Megan Mallouk has spent the last decade performing in Chicago and along the East Coast, on stage, in the air, in commercials and on film. She is a former rhythmic gymnast who competed nationally and internationally. Megan taught at both the competitive and recreational level at Illinois Rhythmics, along side Olympic coach Irina Vdovets Azran and Olympic bronze medalist Olena Vitrychenko. Megan is a graduate of the full time training program at AirCraft Circus in London and the professional training programs at NECCA. Check her out on Instagram @miss_macaroni
