Trapeze

Adult Performance Troupe

Description: Work hard and love every minute of it in this class designed to help you take your circus skills deeper into the performance realm. You will train with a group and work on developing a solo performance in classes that will include movement, tumbling, theatricality, partner acrobatics, and an individual focus skill area where you will be guided in technique, skills, and act creation.

Prerequisites: Students must be training at an intermediate (300) level in their area of specialty and will need to enroll in at least one session class or private lesson per week in that specialty. Participation is by permission of instructor and all students will perform in the annual Flying Nut in December. Private lesson and session class fees are not included in this class fee.

Trapeze 101/201

Description: Come begin your journey on the path to the classic circus skill—trapeze! (And then brag to your friends later when your muscles are super sore and strong.) We'll work slowly to meet you at your level on low trapeze bars, and focus on strength, body awareness, and of course some mad skills. For students who have more experience, we'll add more skills and sequences as you progress.

Prerequisites: This is an introductory level class for all skill levels and bodies.

Trapeze 301

Description: You're strong. You're fierce. You've got a set of very specific mad skills that probably shouldn't be demonstrated while on the subway. Get more. We'll be working on dynamic tricks, skills in the ropes, longer sequencing, fresh technique, and general trapeze geekery.

Prerequisites: Students must be comfortable with beats (pike, knee, long hang/hollow, and working on or comfortable with ankles), able to do one pull up, working on a beat pullover and beginning some dynamic moves. Students should feel confident with short sequences and be working on increasing stamina.

Trapeze 350

Description: You and trapeze are already close, but you're ready to take things to the next level. You've learned so much but are hungry for more noodling transitions and bigger dynamic skills, while only groaning a little bit when you're told to do 10 pull-ups. Join us as we continue to expand our higher-level trapeze vocabulary and start getting innovative with transitions and sequences. We'll continue to polish technique and push our limits in strength and stamina, while occasionally exploring skills over the pit.

Prerequisites: Students must be comfortable with beats (long hang/hollow, pike, knee, ankle), working on or have heel and toe hangs, able to do at least one pull-up, and familiar with beat pullovers and some dynamic moves. Students should feel confident with sequences and be working on increasing stamina. Permission of instructor is required.

Trapeze Meeting

Description: Trapeze Meeting is a creative space for trapeze artists from all over the world to meet, share, connect, learn and reflect. Cost covers hours of open practice each day, participant led workshops, a Works in Progress showing and time to connect and meet with other trapezists. Circus (double point), dance (single point) and duo trapeze enthusiasts are all welcome. Hosted by Aimee Hancock and Elsie Smith.

Prerequisites:

Trapeze Meeting is for advanced and professional level circus artists with a regular trapeze practice. Participation is what drives this event, so we ask everyone to be physically involved. To support a creatively safe environment, there will be no auditing or public viewing.

Is this event right for you?

You have a regular enough trapeze practice that your callouses are well formed and your body is ready for the bumps and bruises that come with 4 days of doing trapeze. You are comfortable exploring, moving, and caring for yourself on the bar and in the ropes. You are excited about having lots of time with lots of bars and lots of people who also have lots of time with lots of bars. Maybe you have some skills or sequences you want to workshop, or maybe you are jazzed about having a foam pit to toss a few tricks into! If you have something you are developing for performance and want to share, we'll have a Work In Progress showing.
